We are proud to partner with the world-renowned Bittersweet, Inc.  Bittersweet, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, was founded in 1983 and was the first agricultural based treatment program for individuals with autism in the United States and one of only a handful of early pioneers to provide services for adults on the autism spectrum.

Headquartered at their original location, Bittersweet Farm, in Whitehouse, Ohio, Bittersweet now has four campuses across Ohio. Their programs provide vocational, residential, community living, transitional, and recreational programs for adolescents and adults on the autism spectrum. Bittersweet’s mission is to positively impact the lives of individuals with autism and those whose lives they touch.  Bittersweet accomplishes this mission by providing supportive programs that emphasize meaningful activities, completed in partnership between staff and participants. Structured supports tailored to the talents and abilities of each individual increase autonomy and self-reliance, maximize dignity, and encourage interaction.

Bittersweet has been visited by numerous organizations from across the globe and maintains membership and participation in many local, regional, and national professional associations and collaborations, including the National Association of Residential Providers for Adults with Autism (NARPAA), Agricultural Communities for Adults with Autism (ACAA), the Great Lakes Collaborative for Autism (GLCA), and the Northwest Ohio Regional Autism Council (NWORAC).

Bittersweet was instrumental in helping to form the vision for Safe Haven Farms and in assisting the founders as they worked to establish Safe Haven Farms.

Bittersweet manages and operates the farm and the day program at Safe Haven Farms, and also has been selected by each resident as the residential service provider.
