EQUESTRIAN PROGRAM

The equestrian program at Safe Haven Farms offers therapeutic riding, and, for those not yet ready to ride, therapeutic equestrian interaction for individuals with developmental disabilities.   Participants may be of any age and need not be a resident or a participant in the day program at the farm.  Viewing areas are available for both the indoor and outdoor arenas so parents can watch their children ride.

EQUESTRIAN VOLUNTEERS

We need volunteers to support and expand our equestrian program.  Volunteers make a time commitment of as little as 1-2 hours per week, and training is provided.  All volunteers must be at least 14 years old, able to walk for 30-45 minutes, and jog for short distances (20-30 feet).  Volunteer roles are:

  • Side Walkers - walk beside the horse and assist the rider. No horse experience necessary.

  • Horse Leaders - assist rider with grooming and tacking horse before class, and lead horse during class under direction of a certified instructor. Some horse experience necessary.
